As a part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge, an initiative launched by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council; the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and International Centre for Culinary Arts - ICCA Dubai will work together to bring a series of hands-on culinary sessions to promote awareness of healthy cooking.
The sessions will teach participants healthy cooking techniques and it will reinforce the message that healthy eating can be delicious. As one of the pillars of health and wellbeing, it can help prevent the onset of chronic non-communicable diseases such as diabetes. In addition to healthy eating, an overall healthy lifestyle pattern that also includes regular exercise and sufficient sleep is necessary to maintain good health.
The Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC) is aimed at improving the health and fitness of the residents of the city, which not only cultivates a fitness-focused mindset but also inspires them to work towards a common goal of maintaining a healthier and active lifestyle in the long run.
The culinary sessions hosted by ICCA Dubai will be held every Saturday afternoon throughout the Dubai Fitness Challenge month along with Specialist Nutritionists from DHA to educate the participants about healthy diets & lifestyle.
Dr. Manal Taryam, CEO of the Primary Healthcare Sector at the DHA said that the Dubai Fitness Challenge has become a model for establishing a modern, vibrant, healthy and happy life. She added that the initiative has succeeded in raising awareness of the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle.
Taryam said that DFC is in line with World Health Organization (WHO), which calls for communities to implement programmes and events related to health and fitness to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases, improve community health and reduce lifestyle related health problems such as obesity.
“It is an honour to be part of such a brilliant initiative that motivates people to take steps to live a healthy life. We are glad that together with the DHA, we are able to support and contribute to a cause committed towards the wellness of residents of Dubai”, said Mr. Sunjeh Raja, Director & CEO, ICCA Dubai.
Taryam added that DFC supports the goals of the DHA of achieving a healthier and happier society. She said this year the DHA is taking part in the challenge through several initiatives such as a ‘Lifestyle Clinic’ to motivate participants to lead a healthy lifestyle.
She added that the authority’s employees will also be participating in a number of challenges and that the authority will be promoting the initiative to encourage more people to participate in its activities.
